Salinas is a coastal city located in the Province of Santa Elena, Ecuador. It is the seat of the canton that bears its name. Salinas is the westernmost city on mainland Ecuador. It' is situated 141 km from Guayaquil and 549 km from Quito. Respectively, Guayaquil is the largest city in Ecuador and Quito is the capital. Salinas is an important tourist center. It is the perfect place for nautical games such as, diving, sailing, surfing, beach volleyball, jet skiing, deep sea fishing, and more. In 2009 it was the site of the ISA World Junior Surfing Games. There are two major yacht clubs in Salinas, Salinas Yacht Club and the Puerto Lucia Yacht Club. The Salinas Yacht Club is much smaller but was established long before the much larger Puerto Lucia Yacht Club. The Puerto Lucia Yacht Club is in Santa Elena that is in an area known as “La Libertad” which means, “The Freedom Town”. Puerto Lucia boasts a hotel, several good restaurants, and a private beach.
